About Dr. Orr
Glenn graduated from the Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) college of Veterinary Medicine in 1955. He moved to Cushing, Iowa, to start a veterinary practice and quickly found the prettiest girl in town. Glenn and Shari were married in 1957. They developed a large animal veterinary clinic, which they sold in 1963.
They moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1964 before settling permanently in Oklahoma City in 1965. In 1965 they opened Allied Western Insurance Agency, which insured horses and cattle all over the country. In 1977 they moved to the farm which they named Celestial Acres and developed the farm into a top regional racehorse breeding and race training operation. In April 2022, Glenn celebrated his 90th birthday on the farm with friends and family. Parents to four children, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Glenn and Shari were married for 54 wonderful years until Shari passed away due to breast cancer in 2011.
building a family farm
Fueled by his love of Oklahoma and his desire to provide a friendly and educational environment for children and families of all ages, Dr. Glenn Orr and his family started construction on the Orr Family Farm in 2003 and opened for their first season in 2004.
Truly a family affair, the Orr’s son Tom and his wife Debbie, graduates of Oklahoma University School of Business, have worked together to grow this unique business. Together they, along with such outstanding “family” members such as Shanain Kemp, Kathy Stallings, Ron Greeson, and Dean Johnson, have made the Orr Family Farm into what it is today. New ‘family’ members and leaders are Rachel Cates, lodging manager, and Brandon Orr 3rd generation, graduate of OU Law School, to focus on farm innovation.
The Orr Family Farm is a spectacular family-friendly getaway located within the heart of Oklahoma City. The Farm offers a variety of rides, activities, educational opportunities, and corporate events and of course delicious food and treats.
Orr Family Farm opens its doors for a spring season in March that concludes in late June, then opens again for its award-winning fall season mid-September through mid-November of each year.
