Field Trips
When are Field Trips?
Field trips are available Tuesdays through Fridays. 2011-2012 fall field trips begin September 29 and run through November 4. Spring field trips are available starting April 7 and ending May 13. Morning session arrival time is 9:30 a.m. and afternoon session arrival time is 11:30 a.m.
Field Trips are Self-Guided.
Our field trips are self-guided. You will have two hours to complete your field trip. There will still be plenty of staff on hand to help you. We will give you maps of all of the activities and where they are located. Your school may stay together as one group or divide up into smaller groups. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
What About Food?
Students are invited to bring their sack lunches to eat in the Farm's picnic areas. Please help the students to clean up after their picnics -- this will teach them to respect the property of others and to always leave a place cleaner than they found it. You can also purchase a Farm Meal for $3.50. We must know in advance how many Farm Meals will be required for your group.
Fees and Registration.
The cost for the field trip is $7 per student and $7 per adult, with one teacher admitted free with every 20 students. Fees are payable on the day of your trip. Purchase orders are accepted. Registration is required. Please phone 405-799-FARM (3276) or take advantage of the online registration form.
Teacher Materials.
Teacher's, please download your instructional packet here. Included are field trip details, a parent letter, directions to the Farm and three wonderful pumpkin recipes!
All School Field Trips Include the Following:
Visit to the Animal Barn
Students will
have a chance to pet the barnyard animals. (Hand-washing stations are provided,
and hand-washing is required.) Wilbur, the pot bellied pig, loves to have his
back scratched. Thumper and Lucille, our lambs, just love to be petted. Spot,
the Flemish Giant Rabbit, loves to be scratched (and sometimes 'scritched')
between the ears. Sara, the goat, loves to be petted between her ears and her
tail wags when you do. Festus, the burrow, entertains by kicking a big soccer
ball.
Ride the Jupiter Train
Students will ride the Jupiter Train, a third scale replica of the United States' first transcontinental locomotive. This historic train met the Union Pacific's #119 at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869 -- it was on the nation's very first transcontinental railway. See more about the historic railroad in our Farm Blog. If time permits, the students may ride the carousel ($1 extra per student).
Play Time
Students will love spending time jumping on the Giant Jumping Pillows, playing on Hay Mountain, Super Slides, Playground and Horse Swings.
Take a Hayride - Fall Season Only
Take a hayride around the farm. In the Fall, we'll take you out to our 'Very Sincere Pumpkin Patch' where everyone will be able to pick their own 'Sugar Pie' pumpkin. The 'Sugar Pie' variety is known to make the best pumpkin pies. At other times, we view the orchard and view the largest horse training center in Oklahoma with 240 stalls.
Instructional Time
This fall, learn about the "Life Cycle of a Pumpkin" in our pumpkin patch. See displays of pumpkins from a seed to a full grown pumpkin.
This Spring, we will have a lesson covering "Barnyard Animals" in our Animal Barn.
